Anticipatory Questions/Activity:

Ask them how this makes them feel? ( Angry, mad, sad,...)
They are now fighting against their friends and family; what are they going to do? (follow the rules or defy the rules and suffer the consequences)
Body of Lesson Plan:
Segment #1
(Artifact: link to real world, website, book, picture, etc.)
The lesson will begin with showing a map of the major battles of the Civil War.
The battles will be listed and talked about. A discussion will begin by asking the students what they think happened by looking at the battle field map only. Does the locations of the battles have any influence of what happened in the end? Have them make a hypothesis by the given facts only.
Segment #2
(Factual information/Vocab
Includes sample feedback loop)
The major Battles of the Civil War will be shown with the following Prezi.
The Prezi will be shown and the battles will be talked about.
Example: Battle of Gettysburg
Union Commander: George Meade, Confederate Commander: Robert E. Lee
46, 286 soldiers died
Victor: Union
The students will research the political factors of the North during the Civil War. The students should spilt into groups and research the Election of 1864. People wanted the war over. This election pitted McClellan and Lincoln. The students need to know how the people were beginning to feel. Have the students research and write a reflection on the topic.
Segment #4
(Detailed directions on how to complete activity)
The Prezi should show a graphic organizer with at least 5 researched points on why the North won. Use military or political reasons for the North winning the war. It will be modeled after the classroom example of 'Major Battles of the Civil War". Directions on how to make a Prezi
